- Maria Langer, http://www.marialanger.com, is the author of numerous Macintosh and Windows how-to computer books. Two productivity software titles of which she is a respected authority are FileMaker and Excel. She discusses how these two products can enhance the capabilities of each other quickly and easily. Excel is the standard for financial spreadsheets and is great for categorizing data, for preparing reports, and for performing complex calculations, but it is limited in displaying the relationships of multiple data sources. With FileMaker, http://www.filemaker.com/excel, users can drag-and-drop Excel from disjointed sets of spreadsheets to a FileMaker Pro relational database. By the same token, FileMaker exports the data from relational databases to Excel for analysis.
